Tilbury2 VBS - Q&A

We have received many questions from you about the new Tilbury2 and here are some answers.

What is T2 VBS?

The T2 VBS system controls access to the T2 Terminal. It is fully integrated to both the Terminal Inventory and gate systems.

We offer our hauliers access to our VBS and Mobile App which offer a number of very useful capabilities and the benefit of direct entry to the entry lanes on arrival.

However use of the system is optional and Hauliers can if they wish continue to arrive as they did before to be booked in at our booking office (albeit all our staff will be doing is creating a VBS booking on their behalf) and Haulier will require to enter the reference to gain access to the Terminal.

Do I need to use VBS?

NO

If you have no wish to make any use of the desktop capability, Mobile App or Self Service then the driver can just turn up at the Tilbury2:

  • They take a left as you they through the entrance portal
  • Park up
  • Go into the Office
  • Fill in their booking in slip and pass to the window staff
  • The window staff will create the VBS booking and provide the reference
  • They can then return to their vehicle and proceed to the entry lanes where they will require to enter the Booking reference on the Entry Kiosk
Will I be charged for using VBS?

No, there are no charges to hauliers in relation to the VBS system.

Will I be charged for being late or not turning up?

No, as above there will no charges to hauliers in relation to the VBS system.

Do I need to make a VBS booking in advance of arrival?

NO

If you have no wish to make any use of the desktop capability, Mobile App or Self Service then the driver can just turn up at the Ttlbury2:

  • Turn left after passing through the entrance portal, before the canopy
  • Park up
  • Go into the Office
  • Fill in their booking in slip and pass to the window staff
  • The window staff will create the VBS booking and provide the reference
  • They can then return to their vehicle and proceed to the entry lanes
Are there any restrictions on availability of bookings for hourly slots?

No, the system will not restrict anyone from getting a booking for a particular slot.

Why should I use VBS?

There are a several benefits all of which will save time for your drivers:

  • Any potential issues can be identified in advance during normal office hours and before your driver arrives.
  • All current bookings can be monitored for status with all details available such as customs clearance, discharged from vessel etc.
  • Notes can be added to bookings and bookings can be extracted to spreadsheet or PDF in a click.
  • Drivers can drive straight into the entry lanes on arrival, avoiding the need to park up and queue at the driver reception desk.
What options do I have for getting a VBS Booking for T2?

You have 3 options:

Option 1: Register and attain a user id to allow you to book remotely via desktop or Mobile App and just drive straight into entry lanes on arrival

Option 2: Just turn up and use the self- service Kiosks, before heading for the entry lanes

Option 3: Just turn up and go into the Booking office where our staff will create your VBS and then allow you to proceed to the entry lanes

Which Option should I use?

You can actually operate with all 3 approaches if you wish, which may be appropriate for larger hauliers subcontracting, but it’s entirely up to you, whereas mobile App may be more suitable to owner drivers.

Option 1: Registering and using remote bookings

This approach allows:

  • Checking that all is in order in advance of arriving at the terminal, as otherwise you will be unable to create booking.
  • With respect to above you can add multiple units into the unit view screen, refresh occasionally to review status and when ready to book, just right click to create booking and all details will be carried through.
  • Use VBS booking to monitor status of all bookings
  • With Remote Bookings Vehicles can arrive directly into the entry lanes and proceed into Terminal

Option 2: Self-Service

This approach allows:

  • Drivers can freely turn up and park up in the pre-entry herringbone area.
  • It is then a short walk to self-service kiosk where they can create their own VBS booking and then proceed to the entry lanes .

Note: The self-service screens are essentially the same as the Mobile App and simple and easy to use. If any issues are encountered, it is a short walk to the booking office (which is arranged for social distancing)

Option 3: Booking Office

This approach allows:

  • Drivers can freely turn up and park up in the pre-entry herringbone area.
  • The driver should then proceed via the walkways to the booking office and complete a booking in slip which the booking in staff will use to create a VBS booking (if all is correct this will take around 20 seconds).
What checks are done when creating a VBS?

1. Exports

For exports then the only check that is done to ensure that the manifest record exists on the system

2. Imports

For imports then the following checks take place immediately on entry of a valid unit number:

  • Customs clearance is present
  • There are no holds
  • The unit is landed on the terminal

The next entry is PIN number which is immediately validated to ensure the entered details match those in our system as provided by P&O.
